Pipe Organ Service in Southern California
Craftsman Pipe Organs provides tuning, maintenance, repair, re-leathering and restoration for pipe organs across Southern California. We work on original instruments and organs with replacement consoles, updated controls or modifications by later builders.
Our in-house W-2 technicians do the work. If a project needs outside subcontractors, we coordinate them directly with your facility.
Call 888-561-9121 or email projects@craftsmanpipeorgans.com to discuss your organ.
Tuning, maintenance and repair
We tune pipe organs and diagnose problems such as ciphers (notes that keep sounding after a key is released), dead notes, wind leaks and unreliable console controls.
For tuning visits, we coordinate with your facility so the building is at its normal operating temperature. Maintenance agreements provide scheduled visits for tuning and routine service.
Tell us what you hear or notice. You don’t need to identify the cause before contacting us.
Re-leathering and restoration
Craftsman keeps completed replacement primary action assemblies in stock and is expanding that inventory across major pipe organ manufacturers. We manufacture new pouchboards in-house using CNC equipment and use custom tooling to control the slack in each leather pouch for consistent action response and reliable sealing.
Where compatible assemblies are in stock, we can exchange them in 1–2 days, reducing re-leathering costs and downtime. We stage the work so the remaining ranks stay playable while custom-sized assemblies are rebuilt in our workshop.
We also repair wind systems, windchests and actions. For larger restorations, we handle console and control-system work, removal, relocation and installation.
Condition surveys and planning larger work
A condition survey helps your organ committee understand what needs attention now and what can be planned for later.
Craftsman can assess the instrument and provide a written report with repair priorities and recommendations. We agree on the assessment and documentation with your facility before the work begins.
For re-leathering, rebuilding or other substantial work, the findings help establish the scope and cost of the proposed project.

Taking over from a retiring organ technician
If your longtime technician has retired or is no longer available, Craftsman can review the instrument and arrange ongoing service.
Send any maintenance records, console documentation and information about previous repairs. We’ll identify what documentation is available and what needs to be recorded for future work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. We assess original instruments and organs with replacement consoles, updated controls, added pipework or other modifications. Send the builder’s name and any available service records when you contact us.
Small ones, sometimes. When it’s safe and practical, we may handle minor adjustments and accessible faults during the tuning visit.
Replacement parts, dismantling, major cleaning, tonal changes and voicing require separate approval. Building-system repairs are not included.
Tell us your recital or service date when you contact us. We’ll confirm availability and schedule the work with your facility.
You don’t need to diagnose it. Describe what you hear or see and when it happens. We’ll discuss the next step and confirm any assessment charges before scheduling a visit.
Yes. Our goal is to keep as many pipe organs in use as possible. We handle removal and relocation, and when an instrument needs a new home, we look for one and keep you updated as it’s restored and rehomed.
If the organ was donated or left to the church through a family bequest, we can also share those updates with family members who want to follow its progress.
